The Mighty God
A Survey of the Theistic Arguments
Overview
The purpose of this book is to present the classic theistic arguments in a way that is both easy to comprehend and logically airtight. In our discussion of the cosmological, teleological, ontological, and moral arguments, we also seek to broaden them beyond their familiar boundaries. For example, we show from Paul's writings that the God hypothesis is not only the best explanation for the origin of the universe, but also for its moment-by-moment existence. We not only feast on the marvelous details of design that guarantee the survival of creatures on this planet, but also we find reflections of the Trinity in the basic structure of reality. Although we set aside the ontological argument as a valid deductive proof of God's existence, we show its great value in encouraging inductive reasoning that comes to the same conclusion. In our presentation of anthropocentric arguments, we strongly counter attempts to portray man's conscience and man's capacity for abstract thought as mere products of evolution. In our discussion of the moral argument, we refute the contention of evolutionists that moral codes exist only because they promote survival by strengthening social bonds.
Indeed, a discussion spread over many chapters demonstrates that the Darwinism beloved by modern intellectuals is self-serving nonsense. By building an irrefutable case that chance was powerless to make a living cell and by amassing evidence for a young earth whose history was disrupted by a global Flood, we demonstrate that the Bible furnishes a true account of origins.
We close the book by urging the reader to recognize and praise God's commitment to perfect truthfulness in His Word.
